Agency Forty has one eye permanently fixed on the horizon. It’s how we ensure our designs for our interiors clients are always ahead of the curve, contemporary and right on-trend. This doesn’t happen by accident. We attend an eclectic selection of London design shows and throughout the year, subscribe to the most visionary interiors magazines, follow brands’ forthcoming collections and spot emerging fashions and new technologies as they break. Colours for 2019 are dominated by strong colours. Expect to see plenty of dark hues including inky blues, wonderfully deep greens, intense burnt oranges and rich burgundies. Sophisticated pastels are set to take centre-stage alongside a spectrum of subtle urban natural tones. Prepare to be dazzled by explosive pops of bright colours, too.

Patterns for 2019 are no shrinking violets. Fragmented collisions of colour create incredible abstract pattern clashes. Contrasting that are more structural patterns that bring order to interior spaces. Natural textures and patterns continue increase in popularity. Large and lush botanical patterns cover everything from wallcoverings to upholstery.

So, what is the shape of things to come in 2019? Think big, bold, perfect circles used for anything from capacious circular bathtubs and simply spherical hanging lights to apertures joining rooms. We love some of the minimalist linear looks too with beautifully straight lines. Smooth curves are evident with soft forms featuring in soft furnishings. The scalloped look is also one to look out for, especially on sofas, sideboards, upholstered furniture and headboards.

Next year’s styles are clearly defined. The popularity of Black Crittall steel-framed windows shows no signs of waning, but expect to see it used in new areas of the home and office. Natural organic textures are making a big show. Everything from natural and engineered wood and painted exposed brick to fur covered furniture and large textured woven fabrics, carpets and rugs are already emerging in the press. Modern retro and contemporary simplicity will be popular too.

That is just a quick snapshot of what’s in store for interiors in 2019. For a more visually in-depth review, request our exclusive 129-page ‘Interior Trends 2019’ presentation.
